Portfolio Manager & Head of Trade Execution
As a Portfolio Manager at HCP, Babak is responsible for assisting in the management of HCP’s funds, with emphasis on proprietary quantitative strategies, trade execution and idea generation. Prior to his role at Hamilton Capital, Babak had an internship in Equity Derivatives at National Bank Financial (NBF), part of which he spent assisting Rob and Jennifer in managing an internal long/short North American financials strategy. Babak has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Honours Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is a CFA charterholder.
Chris is a Portfolio Manager at HCP and is responsible for assisting in the management of HCP’s funds. Chris primarily uses fundamental analysis to evaluate potential and current investments, while also providing support in marketing initiatives. Prior to rejoining Hamilton Capital in 2015, Chris worked for two years in investment banking at TD Securities, working in both the Financial Institutions and Mergers and Acquisitions groups. Before joining TD, Chris worked at HCP and CoreGen Capital Partners, a boutique advisory firm. Chris is a CFA charterholder, has a Master of Financial Economics from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Huron University College at Western University.
Director of Operations
At Hamilton Capital, Derek is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s operations. Derek manages the firm’s financial reporting and performance monitoring, supports the firm’s marketing and shareholder needs and is the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer. In his previous role as Senior Analyst at Hamilton Capital, Derek helped manage the firm’s operations in addition to providing fundamental research support. Prior to joining Hamilton Capital, Derek worked in the mobile technology sector where he focused on various aspects of strategy, operations and engineering. Derek has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Honours Systems Design Engineering with an Option in Management Sciences and specialization in Intelligent Systems from the University of Waterloo. Derek is a CFA charterholder.
Jennifer is a founding partner of Hamilton Capital, and has worked in the financial services industry since 1997. Prior to HCP, Jennifer worked with Rob at various National Bank of Canada (NBC) subsidiaries, most recently assisting in the management of an internal long/short strategy specializing in financial services equities, and earlier in equities research, in covering the large-cap Canadian financials. Before joining NBF, Jennifer spent almost seven years in various actuarial roles at Maritime Life Assurance Company. Jennifer is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a CFA charterholder and an Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. She has a BSc in Mathematics and Diploma in Engineering, both from the University of Prince Edward Island.
Managing Director, Business Development
Pat Sommerville brings 12 years of experience in the financial services industry as Managing Director, Business Development at Hamilton Capital. He is responsible for all forms of the firm’s marketing activities, including the development and maintenance of client relations. Pat also works closely with investment advisors across Canada to integrate Hamilton Capital’s global financial services funds within their portfolios. Prior to joining Hamilton Capital, Pat was Vice President, Sales at Front Street Capital for six years. Previously, he was at CIBC Asset Management and the Royal Bank of Canada in sales and business development roles. Pat has an Honours Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University and has completed the Canadian Securities Course.
Rob is a founding partner of Hamilton Capital, an investment management firm specializing in the global financial services sector since 2009. Rob has specialized in the financial services sector for over 20 years. Prior to founding HCP, Rob worked at NBC Alternative Investments where he successfully managed an internal long/short strategy specializing in financial services equities for nearly two years overlapping the financial crisis. From 2001 to 2007, Rob was the Financial Services Analyst at National Bank Financial, covering the Canadian banks and life insurers during which he was voted an “All Star” analyst by institutional investors each and every full year (according to Brendan Wood International). Earlier in his career, Rob gained experience in corporate finance and investment banking at a bank-owned dealer. Rob is a Chartered Accountant and a CFA charterholder and has a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University.
